Success of the UM Faculty of Law at the Jessup Moot Court Competition

The 63rd Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition in Public International Law was held in Washington, DC from April 8 to 15, 2023. Around 600 teams from around the world spent seven months intensively preparing written products (memorials for Applicant and Respondent) and practicing oral presentations or 'pleadings', which are held as a simulation of court proceedings before the International Court of Justice in The Hague. This year's case covered issues of war or humanitarian law and peace agreements, the employment of war detainees to work with hazardous waste, economic sanctions and state liability for environmental damage. Competitors Patricija Glavica, Andrej Stanišić and Vita Višič achieved top results under the mentorship of Leon Brulc, assist. Živa Šuta, doc. dr. Petra Weingerl and Full prof. dr. Matjaž Tratnik: the award for the best written work in the world ('Alona E. Evans Award 1st place'), which is awarded for the highest combined score of both written works (memorials),recognition for qualifying for the elimination rounds of the oral part of the competition among the top 48 teams (Elimination rounds), Contestant Patricija Glavica received a full scholarship to attend the 'Orientation in the US legal system' training course organized by the International Law Institute in Washington, DC. She received the award as the best speaker from the team with the best written products from a country where English is not the native language.
The results are published on the official competition website. With these achievements, the competitors successfully competed with the most renowned law faculties and put the Faculty of Law of the University of Ljubljana on the world map.
