Applications are now open for Leiden University’s 2023 Summer School ‘The European Union, the United Nations and Global Governance’ in The Hague from the 12th to the 23rd of June 2023 (with the last few days conducted in Brussels).

Successful applicants will join a talented and motivated group of graduate-level students -- Master's and PhD -- for an ambitious two-week program that includes engaging lectures, seminars and networking opportunities, as well as in-person visits to international institutions.

The Summer School offers a series of interactive lectures and seminars by well-known academics and (former) practitioners, familiarizing students with the inner workings of the European Union (EU) and the United Nations (UN) and interactions between these two organizations in the context of global governance.

The two-week programme starts with lectures on salient topics related to European integration and the work of the United Nations, such a

•     Global Security Governance,

•     The EU in the UN,

•     International Financial Cooperation and Stability,

•     Migration Governance,

•     The Role of the G20 in Global Affairs,

•     International Climate Protection and Energy Governance.,

•     European Fiscal and Monetary Policies

Summer School participants will also visit important international institutions in The Hague, such as the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons, the International Court of Justice, and the International Criminal Court. The last three days of the Summer School take place in Brussels, where students visit several EU institutions, including the European External Action Service.

Master-level students (depending on their home institution) may be able to translate their participation into 5 ECTS points.
